The vinyl era was a unique time in history—a time when the limits of a physical record actually forced bands to be more creative, and huge changes in the world completely reshaped how music sounded.
I’m Jamie, The Vinyl Historian. I started this project to track the journey of these classic records from the first spark of an idea right down to the grooves of the finished LP. You’ll still find the release dates and chart numbers here—but those are just the basics. This is about the real, human stories behind the sleeve.
About The Vinyl Historian
We look at the artists, the session players, and the people behind the scenes who made it all happen. We're also going to look at the places. I want to show you the recording studios that shaped the actual sound of the music, the exact spots where famous cover photos were shot, and the neighbourhoods that inspired the songs.
And because this is music you can actually hold in your hands, I’ll also share guides to my favourite record shops and hidden digging spots where these records are still waiting to be found.
